Where to Eat in Marseille

A guide in english of the best places to wine and dine in Marseille.

Welcome to Marseille! Want to know where to Eat in Marseille? Look no further, Mimi (me) has created the perfect list for you.

France is a very multi-cultural country, and Marseille is no exception. The Mediterranean culture is an added plus, and don’t forget the Mediterranean landscape. One of my favorite things to do here in Marseille, is to go to the beach in the morning, and then enjoy some of the local specialties, in one of the many restaurants located nestled in the limestone hills (calanques) looking over the water.

My favorite restaurant located in one of these spots is Le Petit Pavillon. It is located right on the water and is still very close to the city cinter. It’s also a great spot to have an afteroon drive, such as a “Perrier Menthe” Sparking water with mint syrup, or the local favorite, acold glass of pastis. A licorice flavored alcohol which is drinken watered down, in a tall skinny glass.

Another place where you can eat freshly caught fish is the Effet Clochette, in the Panier District, about a ten minute walk from the Vieux Port of Marseille.

I live in the lively Cours Julien area in Marseille, where there are a lot of new places to eat, but also a lot of institutions like La Cantinetta.

I have a few favourites in the area which are L’Arôme and La Caille.

L’Arôme is a very cozy french bistro, that definitely goes above in beyond. I honestly think this should be one of your first visits if you’re looking for where to eat in marseille! L’Arôme is constantly looking for that special something in respects to the choice of products and execution of the prepared dish. Each bite is always a pleasant surprise, as the fresh and local produce and exocitc choice of ingredients mix harmoniously in your mouth.

La Caille targets a younger audience, and offers equaliy daring mélanges of flavours and textures, but at a killer price. The décor is very fun and playful, mixing different styles and genres.

So those are a few of my own personal suggestions. If you’re looking for where to eat in Marseille, I have created a google map, that you can download onto your phone and find somewhere to eat, in fonction of the area you wish to visit. I have also left a review on eat site, so you know a little bit more about the establishment.
